highway 280

I temporarily erected 4’ x 10’ fluorescent orange coroplast pieces along the 2 mile stretch of narrow highway that was transformed into a freeway after the 35W bridge collapse. Words with double meanings, such as hearing, view, and vision, projected a succinct synopsis of the decade-old conflict surrounding the erection of a sound wall.

For the second phase of the project I placed 280 5” x 7” lawn signs on properties east of the highway. Oppositional opinions voiced at the last public hearing about the controversy were color coded on the Lilliputian signs. The placement of the signs at least 10 feet from the curb to comply with sign regulations, along with 12-point type and a miniature scale referenced citizens’ perceptions that their voices aren’t heard or don’t matter in decisions made by the government.
